The 26-year-old Prince Myshkin, following a stay of several years in a Swiss sanatorium, returns to Russia to collect an inheritance and “be among people”. This is especially true of 'The Idiot', and it is only in this light that the novel can be "understood" (or rejected). Dostoevsky was very much a writer of the twentieth century, and his books anticipate and include the modern self-reflexive character of narratives. Certainly the most Christian of Dostoyevsky's novels, THE IDIOT portrays how disastrous a good life can be. Rich in characters, this classic centers mostly on the good Prince Myshkin, a recovering epileptic with a rich soul who is easily perceived as an 'idiot' by the casual observer who focuses on his child-like manners especially in expressing himself and his naivety in dealing with people.

Like “One of the characters in our story, Gavril Ardalionovitch Ivolgin, belonged to the other category; he belonged to the category of "much cleverer" people; though head to toe he was infected with the desire to be original. But this The Ideal Human Being. In The Idiot Dostoevsky attempts to portray the ideal man—a "positively beautiful individual."
